Track & Field

What is this sport like?

Track & field is a sport that encompasses a wide range of athletic contests. From running, jumping, throwing and hurdling, track & field events showcase the human attributes of agility, speed, and athleticism. Track & field is a test of individual skill and endurance. Although there are a few relay events, it is mostly an individual sport. This sport traces back into origins from ancient Greece. There were Olympic games that ended up turning into events. New events have emerged while other events have changed slightly. One of the defining features about track & field is its diversity of events. Each event requires a different set of skills needed to master it. Sprinters need to perfect their block start, jumpers need to find their exact mark and motion in their jumps, throwers need to get a good release, distance runners need to pace themselves. I myself am a jumper who competes in long jump and triple jump. Both of these events require a lot of mind-muscle connection and also a lot of explosiveness. Beyond the physical strength and athleticism displayed in the sport of track & field, it also teaches valuable life lessons. Athletes need to work hard and learn discipline.
