The Wauconda varsity Bulldogs are heading into one of their busiest stretches of the season, with a week of conference games that will really test the team’s energy and focus. With multiple matchups packed into just a few days, the Bulldogs are preparing for a fast-paced and competitive week on the field.
The action begins Monday, May 4, as Wauconda hosts Carmel at 4:35 p.m. The team won’t get much time to rest, returning the very next day to face Round Lake at home. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at Round Lake before wrapping up the week with another home game on Friday.
So far this season, the Bulldogs have shown strong effort and determination, competing well against a variety of opponents. As the games start to stack up, keeping consistency and staying mentally sharp will be just as important as physical endurance.
With such a demanding stretch ahead, the team will be relying on both its experience and teamwork to push through. Make sure to support the team, and bring the energy as the Bulldogs take on this important part of their season. Go Dogs!
Here’s what Coach Rudolph has to say:
Q: What are your goals for the rest of the season?
A: Our Baseball goals as a team are to win Conference and win a regional each year. 20+ wins a season. For individual goals, I want our kids to be good teammates who support each other in a positive way. Creating a culture that provides support, challenges, and developing teammates throughout the season is important for the continued success of the program.
Q: How would you describe the team’s growth since the first game?
A: We are a heavy Senior-heavy team with 10 senior guys out of the 20, which helps provide experience and some direction for our program, so they are able to help set the goals of our program and continue to work on them daily. I would say that we have shown more resiliency and battled since the first game.
Q: How do you keep players motivated through a long season?
A: Baseball is a fun, goofy sport where you have to do things as a team. We eat, take trips, and enjoy game-to-game situations. We take trips to college games, eat some more, and try to have fun, but work hard at practice.
Q: What has been your favorite game this season and why?
A: I got to see what our team is about during the Middle Christian Tennessee game, where we got behind and fought back to a nice victory on our spring trip. That set in stone some feelings about who we are as a group.
Q: Which players have really stepped up this season, and how?
I mentioned before, our senior class is and are the rocks of our program currently. They are setting the foundation daily of who we are and what we want to be.
