Before the season finale, or even first starting the show, there are a lot of movies and series in the MCU that should be seen before watching Agatha All Along (without spoilers). Now, the most obvious answer for what to watch prior to starting Agatha, should be Wandavision. This show mainly focuses on Wanda Maximoff and Vision, who are a part of the Avengers and are trying to live a normal life. Wanda creates a new life for the two of them (along with their kids) and Agatha happens to always be there. Wandavision deals a lot with witchcraft just as Agatha All Along does since both main characters are witches and go against one another a lot. The main reason Wandavision is important to the plot of Agatha is due to the fact that it does have an episode entirely to Agatha Harkness’s background and past life during the witch trials.
Another film that would be helpful to watch is Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. The important thing to note about this movie is that it doesn’t have Agatha in it at all. There are brief mentions of her throughout the film, but she never actually shows up during it. Back in Wandavision, Agatha possesses the Darkhold which Wanda steals from her and becomes an important part of this movie. Without Agatha having the darkhold, there would be no drama during the Multiverse of Madness, since it gave Wanda a lot more power over Strange. The outcome of the movie really upset some Marvel fans, myself being one of them, but the ending transitions pretty well into the first two episodes of Agatha All Along.
Lastly, the final series that should be watched before Agatha is both seasons of Loki (or the first one if you don’t want to commit to the entire thing). The only reason that this show is important to Agatha is because it gives the viewers an in depth description of the MCU multiverse. Wanda needs the multiverse to look in all the over universes (hence, multiverse) throughout the plot of MoM, so the events of Loki give a helpful representation of the multiverse. The series also happens to come before Multiverse of Madness in the chronological order of the MCU which helps.
Agatha All Along, in my opinion, is an extremely good show. I watch it nearly every Wednesday, when the episodes come out, with my family. It has a really good plot, a lot of different characters and twists throughout the episodes. The series focuses on Agatha Harkness, a teen she met, and other witches from her hurriedly formed coven where the only goal for her and the teen is to finish the Witch’s Road and gain power. The events put every character in a lot of danger, but not all the episodes are the same. Each event after episode 2 connects to each witch of the coven. They all have to face different challenges and learn to work with each other.
Junior Maya Sasiadek says “the show is really suspenseful, and I think that Teen is a really good character. He looks kind of emo but I still think he’s cool.” Something that’s sort of funny about the show is how Joe Locke’s character is named Teen by Agatha and all the other characters follow in calling him by the same name since he can’t reveal it to anyone.
Agatha’s character during her own show is pretty similar to how her character acts in Wandavision, but it gives us better insight into her viewpoint and morals. Agatha is a pretty suspicious character given the fact that Marvel considers her a main villain in both Wandavision and Agatha All Along. Agatha seems trustworthy in the beginning, then she typically does something horrible/immoral that goes against the other characters’ views and betrays them. Naomi Strickland, a freshman, talks about how “Agatha is an interesting character and there is a lot to learn about her during the show.”
Kathryn Hahn does an incredible job conveying her character’s emotions and the depth and many layers of Agatha’s character. Agatha’s character has to be several different things and she’s a quick-witted as well as deceitful which can be hard to communicate through a character, but Kathryn Hahn makes it look extremely easy. When watching the show, you can tell when Agatha is thinking of doing something alone and leaving out the others through Hahn’s acting. There are several moments where even just the look on Agatha’s face can instantly connect the viewers to the next idea of the show. All in all, this show is extremely good and is very well written. All of the characters have different personalities and even though some movies and TV shows of the MCU haven’t been as good as they were in the past, Agatha All Along is definitely not one of them. The show uses the suspense extremely well and there is a ton of magic used throughout the series. While the show is about Agatha Harkness, it also focuses on the background lore of the other characters she is with.
