Mindfulness and Stress Management: Tips for Students

As a student, practicing mindfulness can help you manage your stress levels and improve your academic performance. Challenges that hinder academic performance can harm grades. These may include personal issues, lack of interest, or difficulties understanding the course material. Caren Osten Gerszberg states, “Incorporating mindfulness into education has been linked to improving academic and social, and emotional learning. Also, mindfulness strengthens some underlying development processes—such as focus, resilience, and self-soothing—that will help kids in the long run” (Gerszberg). Mindful Moving is another great mindfulness activity to practice. It only takes less than 15 minutes to do so it’s a perfect activity to do before an important test, or even when there’s spare time in class.

According to EDMO, “Mindful movement refers to the practice of engaging the body in physical activity while maintaining an acute awareness of the present moment. In educational settings, it goes beyond traditional physical education by integrating mental attentiveness with bodily motion. This method allows students to improve concentration, manage stress, and foster a conducive learning environment” (EDMO). One effective way to practice mindfulness is by engaging in activities that bring you joy. It’s best to put away distractions and live in the moment. According to Mike Salame, “If there is something you like to do then you should take some time and do it.” (Salame). Fully experiencing and savoring the present moment involves more than just putting on a show or pretending. It requires a genuine appreciation and immersion in the current experience without any distractions or interruptions. By practicing mindfulness, you’ll learn to be more present in the moment and cultivate a sense of inner peace that can help you navigate even the most challenging situations with ease. So why not give it a try and see how it can transform your life?
