Most people go to Dublin, Cork, or Belfast for a vacation in Ireland, but they are missing out on the islands. Ireland has 80 Islands, and most tourists don’t even visit one.
Here are the top 5 islands to visit in Ireland:
#1 Skellig Michael, Kerry
Skellig Michael is named after the archangel Micheal, due to it being an ancient monastery. The island is a great location for hiking. It has many hills and paths for your walk. The only con of visiting this island is that there are no bathrooms.
#2 Rathlin Island, Antrim
This island is more up toward Northern Ireland but you still wouldn’t want to miss it. This island is mostly known for its wildlife, especially puffins.
#3 Great Blasket, Kerry
This island is famous for its old abandoned cottages and white sandy beaches. This is another great island for hiking.
#4 Cape Clear, Cork
This island is more southwest of Ireland, so the weather here is warmer than the other islands. The people that live there mostly speak the Irish language so if you do travel here then it’s suggested that you learn a few phrases.
#5 Inis Oirr, Galway
This island has many ancient ruins of castles, houses, stone walls and Celtic crosses. There’s also a Dolphin named Dusty that lives in the bay, but she doesn’t care for people getting close to her.
