Tech Campus is a program offered here at Wauconda High School. Tech campus was offered for the first time here in 1991, it’s located at CLC in Grayslake. Tech has multiple programs for a student to choose from such as Cosmetology, Auto Mechanics, Certified Nursing, Criminal Justice, and many more. We spoke to Mr. Brian Roy the Counseling Department Head about the opportunities Tech Campus has to offer. We asked Mr. Roy how Tech can help a student build their career, he shared that “Tech can jump-start a career for some students. Also, some of the Tech Campus classes earn college credit at CLC if they want to continue in their career path.” We followed up with this question and asked Mr. Roy if he recommended Tech Campus to students. “Yes, because it is a perfect fit for certain students! It saves some students and helps them graduate from WHS!”
We also interviewed students who are in the Tech Campus and got their opinions on the program. First, We interviewed Emma Krumrey who is a senior and has been in Cosmetology since the beginning of her junior year. The first thing We asked her was what her favorite part of tech was. She said, “My personal favorite part of tech is practicing all the services I will provide in the future.” Emma intends to receive her State Board License for Cosmetology after she graduates from WHS which will allow her to practice in a salon right after high school. We were curious about if she would recommend tech and she shared with me “I would most definitely recommend tech to any students looking to work in a trade program. To me, it has been very beneficial to my career although I believe I’m one of the few classes that receives a license. It will help many students have a background in their career, which includes training with hands-on work.”
After interviewing Emma, we were curious to see if a student in the same program would share similar opinions with her. After interviewing Emma we contacted another student in the Cosmetology program, Celine Sagan. Celine is also a senior in her second year of being in the program. We asked Celine how tech has helped her develop her career path. She told me “It’s helped me develop my future career since I’ll have my Cosmo license by the end of this year, I can automatically go into the workforce as a hairstylist.” We also asked her if she would recommend tech to students. She also said she would recommend it but for slightly different reasons. Celine shared “Yes I would highly recommend tech to others. It helps a lot if you think you’re interested in a career but without having to actually work there or go to a 4-year college for it. It’s a good option for lots of people but it’s not for everyone.” For more information about tech please contact your counselor or visit the CLC tech campus website https://www.techcampus.org/.
