1989 Taylors version

On October 27th, 2023, Taylor Swift released her latest re-recording, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), on streaming platforms. This album is a re-recorded version of her 2015 album 1989, named after Swift’s birth year. The new album features 5 new “From The Vault” tracks, including “Sl*t,” “Say Don’t Go,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Suburban Legends,” and “Is It Over Now?”.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is the fourth entry in Swift’s series of re-recordings, showing her impressive growth as an artist. The album includes newly improved vocals, instrumentals, and tempo changes. However, upon first listening, I had mixed feelings about some of the songs as some sounded better, while others sounded different. The beats are very rhythmic, yet some songs like “Say Don’t Go” and “This Love” have a slower beat. The instrumentals in “Shake It Off,” “Bad Blood,” and “Out Of The Woods” sounded like they had gone down an octave, but overall, they sounded rhythmically well.

The album highlights some emotional songs, including “All You Had To Do Was Stay,” which hit differently from the original recording due to the vocals, rhythmic pattern, harmonies, and tempo. “Blank Space” had something that stood out differently than the original recording. The iconic drums in the beginning sounded offbeat and different. The song “Style” has mixed reviews from listeners who heard the re-recording. Some people enjoy it very much, while others don’t feel like it sounds better.

A few songs stood out to me and are my favorites, including “Say Don’t Go,” “All You Had To Do Was Stay,” “I Wish You Would,” and “You Are In Love.” “Say Don’t Go” is an emotional ballad with emotional patterns in the lyrics. “I Wish You Would” had a newly improved intro that stood out to me and was catchy. “You Are In Love” had harmonies that fit in with the instrumentals, making it blend in with the lyrics.
